The Sunshine Nursery

"A private day nursery, located in a home-style setting where education, care and happiness walk hand in hand. A truly enabling environment where your child will shine"

Welcome

Why Sunshine.....
Sunshine Nursery has been providing high quality care and education for over 28 years under the same owner and manager for the duration. We offer a genuine home from home environment, create loving and caring bonds with practitioners and emphasise the importance of family. On top of this, Sunshine recently got rated 'OUTSTANDING' by Ofsted in May 2017.

We are a well established, private and award winning early years education setting, which provides a fantastic full day care service to children aged 6 months to 5 years. Opening from 8am until 6pm Monday- Friday, for 50 weeks of the year.

Moonbeams (7months- 18months):
In October 2020 Sunshine is opening a redesigned Baby and toddler suite in our 'Cabin'. This includes a large open plan play area with gated access to a carpet play space with indoor play gym, a specially designed kitchenette area for practitioners to prepare snacks, wash-up and keep the environment clean,  baby changing facilities within the room so practitioners can remain within hearing and sight of children at all times, an adult toileting area with large sink and a separate sleep zone. The suite is completely self contained with it's own garden area directly outside for fresh air and outdoor play. This room caters for approximately 6 babies and is the perfect way to introduce little ones to the world of education.

Butterflies (18months-2.3yrs):
The children in the butterfly room benefit from a wonderful, light and airy room creating a calming atmosphere. This room looks out onto the garden via a conservatory, this area also has underfloor heating to keep toes nice a toasty during the colder months perfect for creating an indoor sand play area.
The rest of the room is carpeted and split into two further areas, the top section is used for music and movement with a toddle box for physical development, when not being used for this purpose, we clear and set it out for sleep time with individual coracles or sleep mats.
The bottom section has plenty of resources which can be independently accessed, and a 'book nook' with cushions and soft furnishings perfect for relaxing or role based play.
We have a nappy changing unit and kitchenette area for staff to use whilst remaining in the room and a large vinyl area with washing station where  the children will have mealtimes.
This room caters for up to 8 children per session.

Garden:
At Sunshine we have created 3 separate garden areas all age and stage specific.
The main garden is the largest space comprising of a climbing frame with slide and swing, hanging bars and several under-covered areas. This garden is used by the rainbow children (preschoolers), we have a sensory garden which is under-cover and perfect for rainy play or a quite place for looking at books or sitting at an activity.  A large 6ft sit in sand pit has a newly fitted roof so can be accessed even on wet days and a new wooden corner kitchen means the children are able to follow there role play games outside as well as inside.

A separate 'secret' garden is accessed by a picket fence and has a wonderful woodland feel. Large trees form a canopy which protects from bad weather. A newly built sand pit area has little steps and rails so that the younger children can be as independent as possible and 2 swings have been fitted either side.
There is a wooden summerhouse used for creative play such as drawing or painting, a large chalk board and lots of other areas to explore. This garden is shared at different times between the Butterfly room and the Woodland room.

The Moonbeams have access to a play space which has soft playground matting perfectly soft and spongy for little hands and feet.

Woodland (2.3yrs-3.2yrs):
The Woodland room is the next stage on from Butterflies with children moving up when we feel they are ready, this usually occurs after their second birthday.
The room is the perfect size for exploring an more independent play., split into two main rooms. The first room has vinyl flooring with a sperate potty training and washing station area where children can be encouraged to use the potty in a safe and private way. They love to watch the fish in the tank whilst sitting on the potty or washing their hands. If children aren't quite ready for this stage, we also have a nappy changing area and procedures in place to start to encourage 'potty training'.
Within this room there is also a role based play area with access to lots of resources and a mini kitchen so that the children can follow there imagination and 'mimic' the things they see parents doing at home such as making cups of tea and cooking dinner.
The second space is carpeted and houses a wonderful den which is used for reading books or having quite time or even an extension of role based play. We have a large exploring table which has multiple tops that can create different play opportunities such as mirror, grass or a blackboard.
The children will use this large space for circle time, music, singing, playing or sleep time after lunch, if necessary.
This room caters for up to 10 children per session

Rainbows (3.2-4.5yrs):
Our rainbow children are the eldest group and at this stage we begin to prepare them ready for life at school. We want to create an environment and routine which focuses on independence, building relationships and using their imagination and creative thoughts to build on the knowledge and experiences they already have.
Practitioners are skilled at being able to dip in and out of play and take observations whilst watching play unfold. There main 'role' is to challenge young minds and add to their play so that it enriches the learning opportunities.
Activities are carefully planned with the 3 'I's' in mind:
Intent
Implementation
Impact
So that we are ensuring the children are constantly moving on with their learning.
Practitioners have higher expectations of this age group with rules and boundaries playing a much larger part of understanding the world around them.
The room is split into 4 areas and divided using a gated system (if necessary in order to keep numbers in each area small and covid compliant). A hand washing station is where the children will enter, take off coats, shoes and wash hands before going in to play. The second space is a messy play and art's 'n' crafts area ideal for expressing creativity. This leads onto a toileting area housing  2 mini toilets and sinks perfect for independent access.
The third section is where children have access to an indoor sand pit, construction toys/bricks, puzzles and interactive drawing boards.
Finally the fourth area comprises of a large 'book nook/den' perfect for role play or reading books and a kitchen area where children will carry out more complex games or use play dough to add to their role based play. This also benefits from underfloor heating and brand new cold to touch radiators.
This room caters for up to 20 pre-schoolers per session
